songs and hymns of MHB 471-490 I am not afraid to walk with my Lord

MHB 490

1.FiGHT the good fight with all thy might;
Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right;
Lay hold on life, and It shall be
Thy Joy and crown eternally.

2.Run the straight race through God's good grace;
Lift up thine eyes, and seek. His face,
Life with Its path before thee lies;
Christ is the way, and Christ the prize.

3.Cast care aside, lean on thy Guide,
His boundless mercy will provide;
Lean, and thy trusting soul shall
prove, Christ is thy life, and Christ thy love.

4.Faint not, nor fear, His arm Is near;
He changeth not, and thou art dear,
Only believe, and thou shalt see
That Christ Is all In all to thee.

MHB 489

1.WORKMAN of God O lose not heart,
But learn what God Is like,
And In the darkest battle-field
Thou shalt know where to strike.

2. Thrice blest Is he to whom
Is given The Instinct that can tell
That God Is on the field when
He Is most Invisible.

3. For God Is other than we think;
His ways are far above,
Far  beyond  reason's  height,
and reached Only by childlike love.

4.Then learn to scorn the praise of man,
And learn to lose with God;
For Jesus won the world through shame,
And beckons thee His road.

5.For right is right, since God is God,
And right the day must win;
To doubt would be disloyalty,
To falter would be sin.

MHB 488
1.OFT in danger, oft in woe,
Onward, Christians, onward go;
Fight the fight, maintain the strife,
Strengthened with the Bread of Life.

2.Shrink not, Christians: will ye yield?
Will ye quit the painful Held?
Will ye flee in danger's hour?
Know ye not your Captain's power!

3.Let your drooping hearts be glad;
March IN heavenly armour clad :
Fight, nor think the battle long;
Soon shall victory tune your song.

4.Let not sorrow dim your eye,
Soon shall every tear be dry;
Let not fears your course Impede,
Great your strength If great your need.

5.Onward then to glory move,
More than conquerors ye shall prove;
Though opposed by many a foe.
Christian soldiers, onward go.

MHB 487

1.COME on, my partners in distress,
My comrades through the wilderness,
Who still your bodies feel;
Awhile forget your griefs and fears,
And look beyond this vale of tears
To that celestial hill.

2.Beyond the bounds of time and space,
Look forward to that heavenly place,
The saints' secure abode :
On faith's strong eagle-pinions
rise, And force your passage to the skies,
And scale the mount of God.

3.Who suffer with our Master here,
We shall before His face appear,
And by His side sit down;
To patient faith the prize is sure,
And all that to the end endure
The cross, shall wear the crown.

4.Thrice blessed, bliss-inspiring hope
It lifts the fainting spirits up,
It brings to life the dead;
Our conflicts here shall soon be past,
And you and I ascend at last,
Triumphant  with  our  Head.

5.That great mysterious Deity
We soon with open face shall see;
The  beatific sight
Shall fill heaven's sounding courts with praise,
And wide diffuse the golden blaze
Of everlasting light.

6.The Father shining on His throne,
The glorious co-eternal Son,
The Spirit, one and seven,
Conspire our rapture to complete;
And lo  we fall before His feet,
And silence heightens heaven.

7.In hope of that ecstatic pause,
Jesus, we now sustain the cross,
And at Thy footstool fall;
Till Thou our hidden life reveal,
Till Thou our ravished spirits fill,
And God is all in all.

MHB 486
1.ARM of the Lord, awake, awake !
Thine own immortal strength put on;
With terror clothed, hell's kingdom shake,
And   cast   Thy   foes   with   fury down.

2.As in the ancient days appear;
The sacred annals speak Thy fame :
Be now omnipotently near,
To endless ages still the same.

3. Thy arm, Lord, is not shortened now,
It wants not now the power to save;
Still present with Thy people.
Thou Bear'st them through life's disparted wave.

4. By death and hell pursued in vain,
To Thee the ransomed seed shall come;
Shouting, their heavenly Zion gain,
And pass through death triumph¬ant home.

MHB 485

1.I'M not ashamed to own my Lord,
Or to defend His cause,
Maintain the honour of His word,
The glory of His Cross.

2.Jesus, my God! I know His name,
His name is all my trust;
Nor will He put my soul to shame,
Nor let my hope be lost.

3.Firm as His throne His promise stands,
And He can well secure
What I've committed to His hands
Till the decisive hour.

4.Then  will  He  own my worthless
name Before His Father's face,
And in the new Jerusalem
Appoint my soul a place.

MHB 484

1.SOLDIERS of Christ, arise,
And put your armour on,
Strong in the strength which God supplies
Through His eternal Son;
Strong in the Lord of Hosts,
And in His mighty power,
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts
Is more than conqueror.

2.Stand then in His great might,
With all His strength endued;
But take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God;
That, having all things done,
And all  your conflicts passed,
Ye  may  o'ercome  through Christ alone,
And stand entire at last.

3.Stand then against your foes.
In close and Arm array;
Legions of wily fiends oppose
Throughout the evil day :
But meet the sons of night;
But mock their vain design,
Armed in the arms of heavenly light,
Of righteousness divine.

4.Leave no unguarded place,
No weakness of the soul;
Take every virtue, every grace,
And fortify the whole :
Indissolubly joined,
To battle all proceed;
But  arm  yourselves with all the mind
That was in Christ, your Head.

MHB 483

1.SURROUNDED Dyanost of foes,
Stormed by a host of foes within,
Nor swift to flee, nor strong to oppose,
Single, against hell, earth, and sin
Single, yet undismayed, I am :
I dare believe in Jesu's name.

2. What though a thousand hosts engage,
A thousand  worlds, my soul to shake?
I have a shield shall quell their rage,
And drive the alien armies back;
Portrayed  it bears a bleeding Lamb :
I dare believe in Jesu's name.

3. Me to retrieve from Satan's hands,
Me from this evil world to free,
To purge  my  sins,  and loose  my bands,
And save from all iniquity,
My Lord and God from heaven He came :
I dare believe in Jesu's name.

4. Salvation in His name there is,
Salvation  from sin,death,and hell,
Salvation into glorious bliss,
How great salvation, who can tell?
But all He hath for mine I claim :
I dare believe in Jesu's name.

MHB 482
1.HARK,'tis the watchman's cry:
Wake, brethren, wake!
Jesus Himself Is  nigh;
Wake,brethren, waket
Sleep is for sons of night;
Ye are children of the light;
Yours is the glory bright;
Wake, brethren, wake!

2.Call to each wakening band:;
Watch, brethren, watch
Clear Is our Lord's command :;
Watch, brethren, watch
Be ye as men that wait
Always at their Master's gate,
E'en though He tarry late;
Watch,  brethren, watch

3.Heed we the Master's call:
Work,  brethren,  work!
There's room enough for all,
Work,  brethren,  work!
This vineyard of the
Lord Constant  labour  will  afford;
He will your work reward:
Work,  brethren,  work

4.Hear we the Saviour's voice :
Pray,  brethren,  pray!
Would ye His heart rejoice,
Pray, brethren, pray
Sin calls for ceaseless fear,
Weakness  needs  the  Strong  One near;
Long as ye struggle here,
Pray, brethren, pray!

5.Sound now the final chord,
Praise, brethren, praise
Thrice holy Is the Lord,
Praise, brethren, praise!
What more befits the tongues
Soon to join the angels' songs?
Whilst heaven the note prolongs,
Praise, brethren, praise!

MHB 481

1.HARK,how the  watchmen cry!
Attend the trumpet's sound
Stand  to  your  arms, the foe  Is nigh,
The powers of hell surround :
Who bow to Christ's command,
Your arms and hearts prepare
The day of battle Is at hand!
Go forth to glorious war I

2.Go up with Christ your Head,
Your Captain's footsteps see;
Follow your Captain, and be led
To certain victory.
All power to Him is given,
He ever reigns the same;
Salvation, happiness, and heaven
Are all In Jesu's name.

3.Jesu's  tremendous name
Puts all our foes to flight:
Jesus, the meek, the angry Lamb,
A Lion Is In fight.
By all hell's host withstood,
We  all hell's host o'erthrow;
And   conquering   them,   through Jesu's blood,
We  still to conquer go.

4.Our Captain leads us on;
He beckons from the skies,
And reaches out. a starry crown,
And bids us take the prize:
Be faithful unto death, Partake My victory;
And thou shalt wear this glorious wreath,
And thou shalt reign with Me!
